a working pair

"Shine" sculpture by Willie Cole

I move forward, onward
they get stuck like sticky cement

My feet slip out, land
on burning pavement

I turn around, force
my feet back in

They won’t budge
But I must keep walking

And those darn old shoes
chase me

I flee barefoot
scan shop windows

for a new pair
that work

Sharing with the d’Verse poets community for their Poetics prompt today, which is “shoes”. I love the prompt idea, and it’s a quick write, but still joining in the creative fun. Just as the photo prompt above for Poetics isn’t really about shoes (but is), the poem above isn’t about shoes either, it’s about moving from the past to the future.

A Moment Between

"Convergence" photography by Adam Romanowicz

A Moment Between

Freshly picked
destinies emerge
unfolding,
glancing at
past momentarily; then
future breaks fertile.

Submitting for One Shoot Sunday at one stop poetry.
